Rakaia Gorge Walkway

We went for a day walk here when Mt Oxford was looking very unfriendly. It's a lovely 3 hour walk located on hte north bank of the Rakaia Gorge. It starts from the North end of the North bridge and follows around the gorge to a view point some 5km upstream that, on a fine day, I'm told gives wonderful views of the mountains and the valley upstream.

Unfortunatly for us, the weather packed in and it drizzled and rained for most of the trip. There is still a chance to look at the Snowdon coalmine and the coal seams in the gorge walls.

Not a difficult walk at all, except that the boat ramp side of the looop does indeed go down to within 10m of the water level and not stay near the top as I had thought. A very good walk to do on a fine day.
